At their Regular Council meeting held on Monday, March 18, 2024, Township of Stone Mills Council supported a request from Autism Ontario to Celebrate the Spectrum on World Autism Day, by purchasing a flag and participating in Autism Ontario’s “Fly the Flag” campaign, and formally proclaiming April 2, 2024, as World Autism Awareness Day. Township staff and Council member, Wenda Lalande raised a flag the morning of April 2, 2024, which will be on display for a two-week period.

What is Celebrate the Spectrum?

Celebrate the Spectrum is Autism Ontario’s theme for World Autism Day celebrations. It is an opportunity for positive action to provide spaces of support and advocacy for diverse communities, while learning about autism and how we can all make our communities better for autistic individuals. Similarly to previous Autism Ontario World Autism Day campaigns, Celebrate the Spectrum unites families, schools, communities, businesses, government, and professionals in recognizing World Autism Day by celebrating people on the autism spectrum and bringing to light the systemic barriers that must be removed to create a more supportive and inclusive Ontario.
