Field Renaming Announcement – Honouring Elsie Dowhaluk “The Canteen Lady”

The Township of Stone Mills is proud to announce the renaming of the Tamworth Community Baseball Field to the Elsie Dowhaluk Memorial Ball Park in honour of the late Elsie Dowhaluk, affectionately known as “The Canteen Lady.”

For over 50 years, Elsie’s unwavering dedication, warm spirit, and endless enthusiasm were at the heart of the ballpark. Whether serving up snacks in the canteen, cheering from the sidelines, coaching young players, or simply lighting up the field with her infectious smile — Elsie brought joy, energy, and heart to every inning.
Through tireless fundraising efforts and hands-on involvement, Elsie played an instrumental role in building and sustaining this cherished community space and now, her legacy will live on at the Elsie Dowhaluk Memorial Ball Park. We are also proud to share that Elsie’s family continues her legacy, carrying forward her spirit of community.

Elsie’s family would like to invite family and friends to celebrate this special occasion!
