Water Safety Statement

Quinte Conservation is advising residents of the potential for nuisance flooding due to expected rainfall and warming temperatures.

Weather Forecast: Weather forecasts for the Quinte Watershed predict 30-35 mm of rainfall in the southern portions of the watershed and Prince Edward County over the next few days. Areas north of Hwy 7 are expected to receive 20-25 mm of rainfall. Warm temperatures may exceed 10C over the weekend, leading to significant snowpack reductions south of HWY 7. Prince Edward County may lose most or all of its snowpack in the next 7 days.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event (Drive-Through)

The Township of Stone Mills is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Centreville Public Works Yard (4500 County Road 4). This is a drive-through event.

Accepted items include: paint and stains, solvents (Varsol/turpentine/paint stripper), antifreeze, gasoline, waste motor oil, household cleaners (bleach, oven/drain cleaners, disinfectants), pesticides/herbicides/insecticides, rat & mouse poison, aerosols, pool chemicals, automotive & household batteries, propane tanks, fluorescent tubes, printer cartridges, and old prescriptions/medicines.

Not accepted: bio-hazard waste, explosives/fireworks/ammunition, PCB waste, radioactive materials, helium or Freon tanks, and tires.

Safety & packing tips:

  • Do not mix materials
  • Keep items in original containers and clearly label all materials
  • If a container is damaged, place it in a bag to prevent spills
  • Box small containers for easier handling
  • Wash hands thoroughly after handling chemicals
  • Empty paint cans can be recycled at the landfill sites
