Notice of Changes to Education Development Charges Effective July 1, 2026

Education Development Charges (EDCs) are specific fees levied by school boards on new residential and commercial developments. These fees are collected by local municipalities when building permits are issued, these funds are strictly used by boards to purchase land and prepare sites for new schools to accommodate community growth.

The current set fees are set to expire on July 1, 2026 and the following permit timing and payments will apply to the Township of Stone Mills:

• Permits issued on or before June 30, 2026, are subject to the existing EDCs.
• Permits issued on or after July 1, 2026, are not subject to any EDCs, until the Boards give notice of the passage of a new EDC Bylaws

This applies to all permits certified by the ALCDSB or the CEPEO and that remain unpaid as of June 30, 2026, including residential and conversion permits.
