Joint Compliance Audit Committee

The Joint Election Compliance Audit Committee is responsible for reviewing applications for compliance audits related to the election campaign finances of candidates and registered third-party advertisers. The Committee also considers reports from the Township Clerk regarding possible violations of contribution limits.

As mandated by the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, the Committee has the following responsibilities:

  • Review and decide on applications requesting a compliance audit of a candidate’s election campaign finances. If approved, the Committee appoints an auditor to conduct the audit.

  • Review the auditor’s report and determine if there is evidence of a possible violation of the Act. If so, the Committee decides whether to proceed with legal action against the candidate or third party.

  • Consider reports from the Township Clerk that identify contributors who may have exceeded contribution limits, and decide whether legal action should be taken
