The Facility and Park Assets Naming Policy is the Township of Stone Mills commitment to ensuring asset naming is approached in an equitable and inclusive manner.
Criteria to Name, Rename, or Dedicate a Township Asset
- Reflect Stone Mills' sense of place, continuity, belonging and unique character
- Maintain strong local identity and long-standing recognition for residents
- Promote community pride and recognize Stone Mills' heritage, history, geography and natural features
- Be easily understood by the majority of Stone Mills residents.
- Avoid hyphens, apostrophes and dashes where possible; exceptions may be considered case by case.
- In exceptional cases, names may honour an individual or family if at least one require criterion is met.
Ineligible Criteria
- Be perceived to be discriminatory or derogatory of race, colour, ethnic origin, gender identity or expression, sex, sexual orientation, creed, political affiliation, disability or other social factors
- Individual memorial dedications such as commemorative benches, trees or plaques
- Naming of core facilities (Township Hall, fire halls, public libraries).
- Corporate sponsorship of any Township asset. This is dealt with under the Township of Stone Mills Sponsorship and Advertising Policy.
